Trittin pledges more funds for solar power
If Germany's Greens remain in government after September's elections, environment minister Jürgen Trittin will press for an extension of state subsidies for renewable energy sources, especially solar power, to 2006. Speaking last week at development bank KfW, Mr Trittin said that "Germany could become the world's leading exporter of solar power plants". For this reason, he added, it made economic sense for the government to continue to support the industry. Subsidies of euros 30m for renewable energy sources, 10m of which for solar power, are in place until 2003. See press release.
