EEA publishes biodegradable waste report
A major survey of biodegradable waste management was published today by the European environment agency (EEA). The three-volume study reviews strategies, instruments and technologies for reducing biodegradable waste landfilling, in line with requirements in the EU's 1999 landfill directive. It also recommends an integrated package of measures including separate collection, taxes, centralised composting facilities and efforts to create markets for compost. ENDS Europe DAILY reported on the study's conclusions last April (EED 27/04/01). See press release and report.
