Industry urged to act on chemical risks
Science is beginning to enable rapid assessments of subtle impacts on individuals of man-made chemicals, opening up "huge new opportunities for litigation", Friends of the Earth's Anglo-Welsh branch warned today. The NGO was issuing an update to a report on the implications of modern biochemical research for the EU chemicals debate that it published in June 2000 (EED 05/06/00). Developments since then have been in line with predictions, the group claims, "revolutionising our knowledge about the toxic effects of chemicals" with "huge" implications for manufacturers and retailers.
