France rates efficiency of new cars
A consumer guide to fuel efficiency and carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions of all 3,643 types of new car on the French market has been issued by the country's environment agency. The move is part of France's implementation of the 1999 EU directive on car efficiency and emission labelling (EED 03/11/99). According to the agency, 24% of new diesel vehicles and 8% of new petrol vehicles now have CO2 emissions below the target of 140 grams per kilometre set in a 1998 voluntary agreement between the carmakers and the EU.
