Business urges few packaging law changes
EU industry lobby group Unice has appealed for the EU to restrict a revision of the 1994 packaging directive to changes in recovery and recycling targets, and not to add prevention and re-use goals. The European parliament is about to debate the revision and there are signs it could demand more than the basic changes proposed by the European Commission (EED 07/12/01). Unice also wants the minimum recycling target reduced from the proposed 55% to 45% - the current maximum - and a plan for differentiated material targets abandoned. See Unice position paper.
