Commission on landfill and waste oil offensive

Eight member states have been sent a second warning by the European Commission to transpose the 1999 waste landfill directive into national law after all failed to meet a legal deadline of last July. Luxembourg, Belgium, Germany, Italy, the UK, Greece, Portugal and Finland face EU court action if they do not comply. The Commission also announced today similar warnings to Denmark and Sweden regarding the 1975 waste oils directive, alleging that neither has given adequate priority to oil regeneration over energy recovery.
