Environmentalists launch PVC protest
Four European environmental groups have protested to the European Commission over "apparent inequality in access to information" during consultations between the environment and enterprise directorates to produce a policy paper on PVC plastic. In an open letter to relevant commissioners, Greenpeace, WWF, Friends of the Earth and the EEB claim that PVC industry interests have been able to make "informed submissions" to influence the Commission's follow-up to a 2000 green paper (EED 27/07/00), while they have had "no opportunity to contribute in a similarly targeted fashion." The EU paper could emerge later this month. See letter.
