Advance for German natural gas fuelling
Germany's natural gas industry plus energy firms and petroleum multinationals have pledged to introduce compressed natural gas (CNG) as an alternative road fuel around the nation within four years. Joint venture Erdgas Mobil is promising to install pumps for the cleaner fuel at 1,000 sites by 2006 following success of earlier trials (EED 06/09/01). German environment minister Jürgen Trittin welcomed the news, and urged car makers to follow the fuel industry's lead by offering a wider range of CNG-powered vehicles.
