Biocides directive court judgements loom
Ireland should be condemned by the European court of justice for failing to transpose the EU's 1998 directive on biocidal products by the legal deadline of 14 May 2000, a court advisor said today. Ireland finally passed legislation in December 2001, but this was well after the European Commission set a two-month time-limit for compliance in a legal warning sent in January 2001. Another court advisor last week recommended condemnation of Portugal for the same offence. A court judgement against Luxembourg is also pending (EED 07/03/02). See opinions on Ireland and Portugal.
