Packaging ruling hits UK pubs, restaurants

Pubs, restaurants and cafes in England and Wales will have to meet recycling targets for packaging waste arising from the drinks they sell, under a ruling announced by the London high court late last month. The case was brought by industry recycling organisation Valpak against the Environment Agency, the national regulator. The decision "has significant implications for the brewing and drinks industries and the licensed trade", commented law firm Allen and Overy, which acted for Valpak. See press release.
