Flame retardant makers fight Swedish fire
European producers of brominated flame retardants (BFRs) have hit back at a Swedish move towards phasing out all BFRs (EED 06/06/02). Industry body Ebfrip said the initiative was a "drastic option" that had already been "overwhelmingly rejected" by the European parliament in the context of draft EU electronic waste legislation. Repeating a plea for BFR regulation to be based on the results of ongoing risk assessments, Ebfrip chair Véronique Stuekers called on Sweden to "work with this process as opposed to against it".
