Germany urged to adopt nature strategy
The German government was today urged by its own council of environmental experts (SRU) to launch a strategy to boost nature protection and reduce pressures on land from agriculture, housebuilding and construction of transport infrastructure. Measures should include specific targets, including reductions in soil erosion and improvements in water quality, said SRU. It also called for a shift in agricultural subsidies so as to target funding at promoting environmental good practice in farming. See press release.
