The USA has withdrawn an official complaint lodged two years ago with the International civil aviation organisation (Icao) against the EU at the height of their trade dispute over hushkitted aircraft (EED 14/03/00). The move follows an agreement on stricter aircraft noise standards made last October, which prompted the EU to withdraw its hushkits legislation and propose airport-based noise controls instead (EED 15/10/01). But the USA has maintained its complaint against Belgium, alleging that restrictions on night flights there still break Icao rules. See US EU mission press note.
