Accession states "need green transport drive"
Prospective EU members in central and eastern Europe must be effectively included in the drive to integrate environmental concerns into the transport sector if they are to halt a rapid rise in road traffic, according to a report prepared for the European Commission. It says much work is needed to transfer EU targets to stabilise the modal split of transport and increase the share of less polluting modes to accession countries, where public transport use is still at "extremely high" levels but falling fast.
