German milk deposit lawsuit fails
Germany's constitutional court yesterday threw out a lawsuit aiming to halt the introduction of a deposit on non-returnable cans and bottles from 2003. The case was brought against the government by the Association of German milk manufacturers which claimed that the law allowed for extension of the scheme to milk cartons, despite government assurances that it would prevent this from happening (EED 04/06/02). The association says it will continue to contest the case in the administrative courts. See press release.
