Italy clarifies waste oils and batteries rules
The Italian parliament is to vote on a proposed streamlining of rules on the recovery of waste motor oils and lead batteries from cars, currently falling under two different laws, to close the gap allowing "DIY wastes" to slip through the net. The new proposals also make car, oil and battery manufacturers responsible for warning individual buyers of the dangers and legal sanctions applying to illegal disposal. Thousands of garages will be involved in a nationwide network facilitating free-of-charge disposal. See press release.
