Groups seek Belgian PVC plant ruling
Three Belgian environmental groups have applied to the State Council, the country's highest court, asking it to annul an environmental permit granted by Flemish environment minister Vera Dua to a vinyl chloride monomer (VCM) plant operated by Limburgse Vinylmaatschappij in the eastern town of Tessenderlo. Bond Beter Leefmilieu, Greenpeace and Natuurpunt say water emission limits are too high because the permit does not properly account for the fact that the unit's wastewater treatment unit is also used by several neighbouring plants.
