Commission plugs green technology research
The European Commission today showcased ongoing projects on developing cleaner industrial techonologies to highlight the increasing prominence of environmental issues in the EU's research budget. Research commissioner Philippe Busquin said that €1.1 billion - 30% of the current fifth framework research programme - was devoted to clean technologies. Three projects presented in detail concerned reducing liquid wastes from the surface coating industry, recycling ash from power plants, and ecodesign of electronic appliances.
