UK drafts plan to aid Århus ratification
The UK is pushing ahead with plans to ratify the Århus convention with the launch of new draft regulations on environmental information. Minor changes, including a stricter time limit for responses, are outlined in the draft paper, which seeks alignment of the UK's 2000 freedom of information act with Århus provisions. The convention came into force late last year, but most EU member states are awaiting the adoption of three supporting EU directives before they ratify (EED 22/02/02). See consultation paper.
