Scotland announces ambitious renewables target
Launching a three-month consultation on renewable energy, Scottish environment minister Ross Finnie said on Friday that "producing as much as 40% of Scotland's electricity from renewable sources by 2020 is a realistic aim". While welcoming the proposed target as "much higher than previous suggestions", environmental group Friends of the Earth complained that an existing government target of 18% by 2010 was not being revised. The consultation is running in parallel with a UK-wide review of energy policy due to result in a white paper this year (EED 15/05/02). Consultation document to be published here.
