MEPs blast EU green law reporting system
The European parliament has criticised the system of questionnaires used by the European Commission to monitor the implementation of EU environmental laws. A resolution by environment committee chairman Caroline Jackson, adopted by MEPs today, says the 1991 directive underpinning the questionnaires has "done little to solve the basic problem of non-reporting" by member states, and needs to be revised "with very great urgency" before enlargement. The Commission is understood to be drafting a new reporting regime; the Danish EU presidency will host a conference on the subject later this month. See resolution.
