Bachelot warning over waste disposal
French environment minister Roselyne Bachelot this week underlined that the 1992 law excluding all but "final waste" from landfills would become "sooner or later a reality that would affect everyone" (EED 10/07/02). Speaking at the annual waste congress in Agen, Ms Bachelot also pledged closure by the year end of waste incinerators exceeding national dioxin ceilings, in line with a 1991 national law (EED 31/01/02). New incinerators would be subject to stricter emissions ceilings, she said, as France would shortly sign off legislation transposing the 2000 EU waste incineration directive. See speech.
