Danish household waste scheme "a write-off"
Denmark's ambitious attempt to generate biogas for energy from household waste has been an expensive "fiasco", Jyllands-Posten newspaper reports. Niels Remtoft of the national local authorities' association (KL) told the newspaper: "It is hard to get people to sort [waste] properly, and at the same time we have to admit that the environmental gain is not very great." Although hundreds of millions of kroner have been spent on such "green waste" schemes, local authorities are increasingly dropping them and writing off their investments, Jyllands-Posten says.
