UK extends emergency nuclear loan
The UK government today expanded a controversial loan for troubled nuclear electricity generator British Energy. The UK£410m (€650m) facility was due to close tomorrow but has now been extended to 29 November and increased to UK£650m. Environmentalist critics allege the loan is in breach of EU state aid rules (EED 20/09/02) and once again attacked the government, accusing it of "ducking an opportunity to finally deal with Britain's nuclear headache".
