Enlargement threat to environmental reporting
Environmental reporting in the enlarged EU will become more complex as it will have to rely on "poor" and "sparse" information, a report by the European environment agency has warned. Adopting a regional approach that is mainly geographical, but flexible enough to be modified on a case-by-case basis, may be one way forward, the report suggests. Trans-boundary flows of environmental information will have to be improved, it says. Because of significant differences in economic levels, the agency will have to "explore new ways of presenting country breakdowns", it concludes. See report.
