Government reveals plans for English water
The UK government yesterday issued a document outlining priorities for water policy in England over the next 20 years. More integration is urged with other policy areas such as agriculture and fisheries, biodiversity and land planning, together with measures to address pollution from diffuse sources, and to mitigate the impact of abstraction on Natura 2000 sites. The environment ministry also pledges to press EU institutions to fully assess the costs and benefits of future legislation affecting water, and to ensure that monitoring systems are harmonised across the bloc.
