Bank celebrates €1bn German solar funding

German development bank KfW yesterday announced an important milestone in its loan programme for domestic photovoltaic solar panel installation, which it said had topped €1bn. Introduced under Germany's 100,000 roofs programme, the loans have enabled installation of 190 MW capacity of solar cells - enough to power 50,000 households. The world's biggest solar support programme, which started in 1999 and runs until 2003, saves 100,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions a year, according to KfW. See press release.
