European wind capacity continues to grow

Total installed wind energy capacity in Europe broke the 20,000 megawatt (MW) mark this year and currently stands at 20,447 MW, according to a new report from the European wind energy association (Ewea). This amounts to a year-on-year increase of 40% in turbine output, maintaining recent trends, it said. Germany still leads the way in terms of turbines already in place and being developed, with 50% of European capacity. Spain and Denmark have a further 34%. Europe now accounts for three-quarters of global wind energy generation. See Ewea press release, report and map.
