Italian chemical firms seek green reward
Companies achieving certification to recognised environmental management standards should be rewarded with streamlined bureaucratic procedures and preferential access to public tendering processes, Italy's chemical industry association Federchimica said last week. Simplifying procedures required to gain both the international ISO 14001 system standard and the EU's EMAS scheme is required if small and medium-sized enterprises are to seriously consider them, it added. In a recent survey of chemical firms 79% of respondents cited complex administrative procedures as a major obstacle to certification.
