Ministers back "soft" EU strategy for CSR
EU employment and social affairs ministers have backed a European Commission decision to promote corporate social responsibility (CSR) by voluntary rather than mandatory means. At a council meeting in Brussels on Tuesday ministers passed a resolution broadly supporting the Commission's strategy as set out in a policy paper this summer (EED 02/07/02). The ministers said the strategy should include firms' subsidiaries and contractors, and should cover aspects such as health and safety at work and human resources management. They also supported the recently-launched EU multi-stakeholder forum on CSR (EED 16/10/02). See council minutes.
