EU releases new dishwasher ecolabel criteria
The European Commission published revised and toughened criteria for awarding the EU flower ecolabel to detergents used in dishwashers yesterday. Developed in 2002, the criteria were formally adopted in November and remain valid until 2007. The new label criteria stipulate a lower phosphate content and increase the number of qualifying points needed for products to be awarded the ecolabel. There are new biodegradability requirements and an expanded list of banned hazardous substances. Six companies hold the label under the current criteria (EED 28/02/02). See new criteria.
