Pressure urged on Russia over Kyoto
Greenpeace and WWF have written to EU heads of state urging them to put pressure on Russia to complete its ratification of the Kyoto protocol, which is crucial to achieve the agreement's entry into force. Although Russia pledged at last year's Johannesburg sustainability summit to complete the ratification process "shortly" doubts have surfaced recently over whether it will ratify at all. Looming presidential and parliamentary elections mean that if ratification is not approved this spring, then a decision is unlikely for at least another year. See press release and letter.
