German ecolabel award for wood pellets
The German environment agency has announced criteria for a new "blue angel" ecolabel applying to wood pellets used in domestic heating appliances. To earn the ecolabel, wood pellets must not exceed thresholds for emissions including carbon monoxide, nitrogen oxides and dust. They must also conform to specific energy efficiency standards. The number of domestic wood-fired heaters sold in Germany has increased significantly in the last few years, the environment agency says, with 5,000 appliances of up to 50 kilowatts power purchased in 2001. See press release. Ecolabel criteria will appear here shortly.
