French cement makers pledge climate gas cuts
Three French cement manufacturers, Lafarge, Holcim France and Vicat, have agreed to cut their emissions of greenhouse gases under a voluntary scheme administered by industry climate change association Aeres. In December, chemicals manufacturer Rhodia became the first firm to have climate change commitments approved by Aeres. The association is also working on securing commitments from small and medium-sized companies, a spokesperson said. An original deadline for firms to sign up by June 2003 is, however, likely to be postponed by several months (EED 22/07/02). See press release.
