Habitat protection finance options set out

The European Commission has issued in 11 languages a report setting out options to boost funding for the EU's planned Natura 2000 ecological network. Current arrangements are insufficient to meet expected costs of €3.4bn to €5.7bn per year between now and 2013, it says. The Commission has indicated that it will back one proposed option of boosting the use of existing funds when it presents a communication on financing Natura 2000 in September. See report.
