Wind of change blows in UK energy scene
More wind power capacity received planning consent in the UK last week than was built in the whole of the 1990s, the British wind energy association (BWEA) said today. The association said it expected many more wind farms to be built following government backing for more renewable energy last month (EED 24/02/03). In a separate development nuclear services firm BNFL announced today that Calder Hall, the world's first industrial scale nuclear power station, is to close ahead of schedule on 31 March.
