Norway reaffirms commitment to recycling
The Norwegian government has "renewed" an eight-year-old series of agreements with the private sector on packaging waste collection, with the aim of further increasing recycling rates, currently at 75%. "The old agreements were out of date", said environment minister Børge Brende, partly because the previous government had "signalled that it wanted to reduce recycling targets for some types of packaging" in favour of energy recovery. "This is not the policy of the present government," Mr Brende added, and it was therefore "necessary to ensure that the ambitious recycling requirements are implemented". See press release.
