Scots confirm ambitious green energy target
Scotland's environment minister Ross Finnie confirmed today, following a seven-month consultation, that 40% of Scotland's electricity requirements should be generated from renewable sources by 2020 (EED 26/08/02). Environmental group Friends of the Earth welcomed the development, saying it "sets an example to the rest of the UK". The UK government recently announced its ambition to reach 20% share by 2020 (EED 24/02/03). Mr Finnie also announced a £2m (€3m) investment in marine energy research and support for renewable technologies. See press release.
