UK in trouble over nuclear sub waste
The European Commission is to send the UK a second warning of potential legal action at the European court of justice over an alleged breach of the Euratom treaty. The Commission said today it was not informed of a plan to authorise the disposal of radioactive waste from the refitting and refuelling of nuclear submarines at the Devonport dockyard in south-west England. Under the treaty the Commission must assess disposal plans to determine whether they pose a significant health risk to another EU member state. See Commission press release.
