Industrial biotech firms claim green bonus
Independent reviews of six industrial biotechnology applications have confirmed that they have environmental benefits and contribute to sustainability, Europe's biotechnology industry association Europabio said yesterday. Several firms submitted processes using microbes to produce products ranging from antibiotics to bioplastics. So-called "white" biotechnology could in future also be a "green" route to producing biofuels or biochemicals if technological development succeeds in reducing costs, Europabio added.
