Pot of gold seen in waste minimisation

British manufacturers could save up to UK£2.9bn (€ 4.2bn), equivalent to 2% of their value added and 7% of profits in 2000, if they all adopted best practice waste minimisation techniques, the anglo-welsh environment agency has claimed. It has co-launched a new project, entitled Reward, designed to promote increased environmental productivity and profits across 49 business sectors. Part of the predicted savings come from lower waste disposal costs, but the majority are attributed to lower purchase costs of materials that do not end up in products. See agency study and Reward website.
