Cepi claims EU recovered fuel standard victory

Recovered and sorted paper suitable for recycling will not be available for use as waste-to-energy incinerator feedstock under emerging EU standards for recovered fuels, according to paper industry lobby group Cepi. Proclaiming victory for a lobbying campaign begun last year (EED 20/11/02), Cepi said that standardisation body CEN had now explicitly excluded recyclable paper shipments from the draft list of recovered fuels. The group had argued that including them would cause market distortions, while competition with incinerators for waste paper could have dented its efforts to hit recycling targets.
