Blueprint issued by battery manufacturers
Battery makers operating in Europe have set out their position on the forthcoming revision of EU battery legislation. A new consultation was launched earlier this year, after a text drafted by the European Commission two years ago failed to complete the legislative process (EED 26/02/03). Collection systems should operate at "reasonable costs" and be either individual or collective, at the participant's choice, the paper states. While accepting that there should be collection and recycling targets, the manufacturers say they should be legally binding only for nickel cadmium batteries. See position paper.
