Norway presses UK over nuclear discharges
Norway's prime minister and environment minister yesterday met their counterparts in London and urged them to end emissions of the radioactive isotope technetium-99 from the Sellafield nuclear plant north-west England. The UK environment ministry announced a possible moratorium on releases last December, subject to a technical assessment (EED 11/12/03). The assessment is continuing, a ministry spokesperson told ENDS Europe DAILY today. Norwegian environmental group Bellona described Britain's approach to the issue as "arrogant".
