EU pollution inspectors mark enlargement
The EU's network of industrial pollution inspectors, Impel, last week held its first plenary session since expanding in January to include agencies from 29 countries. Meeting in Greece, participants reviewed progress on projects implementing a 2001 EU recommendation on minimum criteria for environmental inspections. Peer reviews of national inspection procedures in Germany, the Netherlands, Belgium and Ireland have now been completed; two more on Spain and France are virtually finalised. There was strong support, according to an official, for Impel to start making an input when new legislation is drafted. See Impel.
