Paris gets a head start on noise mapping
A series of 315 maps have been issued showing noise levels from road traffic throughout Paris. The initiative anticipates by four years an EU requirement for noise mapping in all centres over 250,000 population. For each of 63 zones one map highlights quiet and noisy areas of a district while a second illustrates average traffic noise. The maps show that 7% of the French capital's population are on average exposed to traffic noise over 70 decibels, 46% to between 61 and 70 decibels and 47% to less than 61 decibels. See details.
