Energy funding and power deals confirmed
Foreign ministers meeting in Luxembourg this week formally confirmed second reading agreement with the European parliament over directives on electricity market liberalisation and the promotion of energy saving. The agreements will avoid lengthy conciliation talks. The first will see €200 million of EU funds set aside under the banner "Energy intelligent Europe" to fund energy efficiency and renewables projects from 2003-2006 (EED 14/05/03). The second introduces a moderate level of disclosure of energy sources onto consumer electricity bills (EED 06/06/03). See EU council minutes.
