GM crops trade dispute escalates
The US is pressing for the immediate establishment of a panel to adjudicate on its complaint against the EU's moratorium on genetically modified (GM) crops. The parties had until 12 July to resolve the dispute informally, but the US demanded that it be heard by the panel after unfruitful initial talks at the World trade organisation yesterday. The proceedings were started by a US-led coalition of countries last month (EED 13/05/03). However, Argentina was the only other country to join in yesterday's consultations.
