MEPs press for action on EU marine strategy
Initial European Commission suggestions for an EU thematic strategy for the marine environment are "not sufficiently ambitious", according to a resolution adopted by the European parliament last week. Responding to a policy paper from the Commission last year (EED 10/10/02), MEPs called for a strategy based more on the precautionary principle. The parliament also adopted second-reading amendments on a revision of the Seveso directive on major accident hazards. The changes will now be put to EU governments.
