Denmark to end tax on "newly recyclable" PVC
Danish environment minister Hans Christian Schmidt is to drop a long-standing tax on "hard" PVC from January because it is now recyclable, Børsen newspaper reports. The surcharge, worth DKr10m (€1.3m) a year "is too much tax for too little environment", Mr Schmidt said. Industry group the PVC information council Denmark called for softened PVC to receive similar treatment. Earlier this year, the PVC council announced " a breakthrough in PVC recycling" at a new €10.6m plant in the north-Italian city of Ferrara (EED 21/01/02). See Danish press digest for 19 June.
